Scott Kiloby

Scott Kiloby Scott Kiloby is based in Indianna, USA, and is devoted to demystifying and simplifying the message of spiritual enlightenment.

Scott teaches that enlightenment is not reserved for gurus or available only after years of practice or seeking. It is our birthright. It is not a special state, experience, thought, or emotion that one has to find or maintain.

The word enlightenment, he points out, is merely a label pointing to the direct and immediate recognition of timeless awareness. This awareness holds the key to your true identity. It reveals that all boundaries are illusory including the boundaries between people, religions, programs, paths, groups, and nations.

Scott is the author of two books. His first book, released in 2008, is Love's Quiet Revolution: The End of the Spiritual Search. To order Love's Quiet Revolution from Clearsight, >>>Click Here

His second book is a book of daily expressions called, Reflections of the One Life: Daily Pointers to Enlightenment. To order Reflections of the One Life from Clearsight, >>>Click Here

Now, here's another example of Scott's insightful writing ...

Don't Miss One Half of Spirit

Awareness is inseparable from its content. Don’t believe me. See for yourself. Without awareness, there can be no thought, no experience, no state, no emotion, no event, no tree, no sun, no dog, no book, no website, no car, no planet. Awareness and its content are ‘not two.’

Life is pure seamlessness. Each thing appears and disappears seamlessly from basic, timeless, spacious awareness.

Why create a massive dualistic split between the space and the content or appearances in the space? It's one seamless universe. Love it all. You are THAT.

You cannot have content without awareness. Can you have awareness without content?  Surely, there can be a recognition of contentless awareness. This happens in deep, formless sleep every night. You can also recognize contentless awareness right now. It is simple present awareness without descriptions. No past can bring simple present awareness about and no future can threaten it. But in the truest sense, there is nothing you can say about contentless awareness because anything you say is content. Contentless awareness cannot be known as an object.  It is simply that which is awake as the timeless space we call “now.” It is the mirror on which each reflection shines. The ocean from which each wave appears and disappears. The unmoving, unchanging fundamental space of life from which all movement and change comes.

And why would you need to refer back to contentless awareness once you realize that it is what you are? You cannot know it as an object. The word "awareness" is not it. It is merely a symbol.  The symbol "awareness" is pointing to that which is the source of everything. There is no need to remember the source either as a word or a particular experience or description, including as non-conceptual, formless, or empty. If you see reflections in the mirror, do you try to scrape the reflections off the mirror so that you can see only a crystal clear, contentless mirror? No, you enjoy the reflections. If you see the ocean, wild and vast, do you desire for its waves to calm down so that it is one, silent, unmoving body of water? No, you surf, you sail, you fish. You enjoy the ocean in all its raging glory. You are the ocean enjoying yourself as a wave, as surfing, sailing, and fishing. Contentless awareness is appearing as all experience, all things. There is no need to continue returning and fixating on that which is free and clear of content. Nothing is truly free and clear of anything anyway. What you are calling pure awareness is appearing as every manifest thing. Awareness is literally the dog in front of you, the street you drive on, the thoughts racing through your head. It is your confusion, your clarity, your body, last night's dinner, and the clouds in the sky. Any other way of seeing it has the possibility of creating a massive dualistic split in the mind between nothing and everything, being and becoming, formlessness and form, timelessness and time, space and matter. It is only the mind that entertains that split. Enjoy the mind too, just don't believe that its stories are absolutely true.

If this resonates with you, it probably means that you've been identifying a little too much with the empty space, with the contentless nothingness, or at least the idea of it. This writing is not teaching you anything. It is reminding you of what you are. You are not merely the blank mirror. That mirror is dancing as every reflection. Don't deny the reflections.

If this writing does not resonate with you, it can be helpful to recognize the contentless, non-conceptual being (i.e., awareness) that is your real identity prior to all phenomenon. That's a great practice. Yes, do that if it helps you see that you are not the egoic story, the separate individual you take yourself to be. In fact, take moments throughout the day to recognize that awareness until it's seen that it is your true identity.

Just don't get stuck in the idea of emptiness, in the idea of nothingness, in the idea of contentless or non-conceptual awareness.  By continuing to reinforce the idea, the mind begins to deny content. Rather than simply no longer identifying with content, it vilifies it, avoids it, turns away from it completely. What starts out as an innocent practice to recognize the source becomes a pathology. Instead of recognizing you are "not of this world," you are denying the world completely. It's like seeing a spring from which water is shooting high into the air, creating beautiful rainbows and mist but then wanting the water to stop so you can fixate on the source, the empty hole in the ground. The source and the water gushing from it are one. Don't cut it in two and fixate only on one aspect.

It is liberating to recognize that, whatever this non-conceptual, timeless awareness is, that is what you are. But once it is recognized fully and completely that this space is what you are, and that this is what the word “spirit” is pointing to, there is no need to continuously return to a contentless sense of being.  To return again and again to it is to treat it as a temporary experience, something to get to, return to, or rest in.  Again, although that may be helpful in recognizing this contentless awareness, don’t get caught in the repetitious trap of trying to reach or maintain or recognize or know yourself as this contentless space. By making it into an experience or continuously recognizing it, the mind creates a pattern of wanting to return to it and to avoid content. That’s a trap. Don’t fall for the trap that contentless awareness is non-duality. It isn’t. Don’t deny content. In the spiritual search, the desire to recognize pure awareness (i.e., spirit) comes from an identity crisis. You don't know who or what you are. In not knowing what you are, the storm of phenomena (thoughts, feelings, states, and experiences) torture and overwhelm you. In recognizing that you are this vast, spacious awareness, phenomena no longer torture you. Phenomena are seen to be the spontaneous and dynamic energy of awareness itself.

Once there is a knowing that what you are, in the deepest sense, is this contentless awareness, the content is enjoyed. It flows naturally. Once you know that your true identity is the ocean, let the waves play. Let them tumble over each other.  Get soaking wet in the play of life. Enjoy the difference between the waves.  Each one is unique. You, the individual body, mind, and personality, are none other than the awareness. Enjoy your uniqueness. I'm not referring to ego.  Ego is that contracted energy, that time-bound, thought-based story that fixates in self-centered thinking. Once awareness is recognized as your real identity, the ego is seen as a phantom. What I'm referring to here is the vast freedom inherent in awareness and the fact that every form is a perfect, inseparable, unique expression of that awareness. That means every form, including the individual life form that appears in that body. The unique you that is inseparable from the source. Enjoy it all!

People think that real freedom lies somewhere in their personal, time-bound story, which means in some future moment.  But the real freedom, the real uniqueness, lies outside of the self-centered, mental fixation with self. It is beyond the self contraction entirely. It is in the recognition that your true identity is the ocean of awareness itself. In that recognition, there is an absolute freedom to be the wave that appears as that particular body, that particular personality with its unique talents, knowledge, and way of being in the world. This freedom arises naturally from the total security, warmth, and love in knowing that you, the wave, are not separate from the ocean. Therefore, even the physical death of your individual body and mind cannot threaten what you are. This knowing allows the wave to be exactly the way it is, to create in the world in a totally unique way, to be an individual expression of the vast, unconditioned ocean.

You will know when you are ready for this message. You will have already recognized your true identity fully and completely as the source, as present awareness, as none other than God. But don't just hang out there, go play! It's funny to even invite you, as some sort of practice, to enjoy the fullness of life. You are that fullness. Nothing is already being everything. There can only be a present recognition of that. That recognition is available only now, as a fresh and totally new openness to life as it appears in this moment.

So recognize it. Don't hang out only in emptiness. Everything is the dynamic energy of awareness. That means everything. Nothing is excluded from the word "everything."

Enjoy all phenomena. Notice how it comes and goes like a wild river. Enjoy thinking. Embrace the intellect. Don’t deny the intellect. Enjoy every manifest thing, every appearance. Enjoy your friends, your family, your job.  Enjoy writing poetry, sitting on the porch, doing whatever hobby interests you. See that awareness is not separate from content.  The wave is not separate from the ocean.

Some will tell you that you need to stay only with non-conceptual awareness (and ignore writings like this). Yes, that is great as a practice, to recognize pure awareness prior to thought. But once this vast spacious awareness is recognized to be your true identity, then what are you waiting for? Why keep checking in on what you already know you are? As they say in Zen, return to the marketplace. Play. Have fun. Express the inexpressible. Help others even though you know there are no others. Embrace paradox. Enjoy the forms. Enjoy the body. Enjoy sex. There is no line between nothing and everything. See that and recognize you are that. Fall in love with form in a whole new way. Once there is no longer identification with form, see that it is beautiful. Nothing is appearing as all these beautiful forms.  They are everywhere—from the smile on your child’s face to the leaves blowing over a highway to the sound of rock music blaring from a car window to high mountaintops covered in snow.  Isn’t in beautiful? Isn’t the content great? Don’t miss the content.  You are missing one half of spirit. You are missing one half of Yourself. You are missing one half of God.
