If You Subscribed And No Peter's Pearls

If you subscribed your correct email address and haven't received a Peter's Pearls enlightenment wisdom quote, it may have been filtered by a third party.

Email filtering, either by your company, web email client, or Internet Service Provider, is becoming more and more prevalent. Unfortunately, it can be very generalized -- sometimes a single word can trigger filters and cause our emails to be rejected. And most of the time you won't even know when a message hasn't been delivered.

There are a few things you can do to prevent this from happening and ensure you receive our daily offerings.

Firstly, to make sure that Peter's Pearls reach your "In" box and are not blocked by mistake, please add the email address peter@peterspearls.com.au to your safelist, whitelist or address book.

Ask your company or internet provider's administrator to always accept email messages from peter@peterspearls.com.au.

Also, ask them if they keep a "Spam" folder for your account which may contain our mailings (and many other important email messages that never made it to your inbox!).

In this folder, you can normally indicate which senders aren't spam, and should thus be allowed to go through. It's a good idea to check your "Spam" or "Junk" folders regularly to ensure you aren't missing emails.

If you discover emails in the "Spam" folder that shouldn't be there, right click on the email and select: 'Approve sender".

Consider changing your email address on file to a different one that isn't filtered by a third party; for example, your private Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail account.

If you do use a Web-based email account, remember to keep you 'In Box' cleared, as most of these accounts have a quota or allowed capacity and if your "In Box" is filled to its allowed capacity with emails, no more can or will be delivered. We get a lot of bounce-backs stating that the recipient's "In Box" is over their quota, and there is nothing we can do to alert them to this fact.

If Your Subscription Suddenly Stopped

The software that sends out Peter's Pearls, Mailman, will disable a subscription address if it gets a certain number of bounce backs. Bounce backs occur if an address is or becomes undeliverable. This can happen, for instance, if a would-be-subscriber trys to subscribe with an incorrect address.

Mailman will also disable a subscription address if the subscriber changes their address without changing it on our list (see below).

If you've been receiving Peter's Pearls on your work computer and they suddenly stop coming, your subscription may have been disabled by Mailman because it is encourntering a filter or blocking device of some kind. This could have been activated by the IT Manager, for instance, at your office without your knowing. If so, have a chat with him/her to see if this is the case and if something can be done.

Mailman will also disable your subscription if you are using an 'In' box with a limited capacity (usually an on line email account such as Hotmail, for instance) and if that capacity has been reached and it will not accept any more emails. This often happens when you are unable to check your emails for some time due to being on vacation etc. The best way to prevent this happening is to put your Peter's Pearls on temporary hold so they will not clog up your 'In' box while you're away (see how to do this below).

If your address has been disabled, just send a request to be resubscribed to the List Administrator.

To change your email address on our list, simply go to our Subscribe/Unsubscribe page, unsubscribe your previous email address and then subscribe your new address. You can also change you email address in a more roundabout way by accessing your List Subscription Options with a password as outlined immediately above.
