Deep Wisdom Quotes
NB: The Deep Wisdom referred to here could equally be called, Perennial Wisdom, Enlightenment Wisdm, Awakened Wisdom, Esoteric Wisdom, Mystical Wisdom, or, Non-dual Wisdom etc. It is basically wisdom that arises from and points to the formless Presence Awareness that we are, rather than the forms that appear in or to our consciousness, such as the thoughts, ideas, concepts or beliefs that also arise from that Aware Presence.
Our own life is the instrument with which we experiment with truth. –Thich Nhat Hahn
The genuine followers of the perennial philosophy shall remain few, not because it requires great understanding, but because the following of that philosophy requires so great a moral courage and unflagging determination. The philosophy of mysticism, unlike some others, is not dependent upon intellect for confirmation, but upon experiment. It remains incomprehensible to all but those who are willing to carry out the experiment with their very lives. –Swami Abhayananda
When we dare to doubt what we are told and take a fresh look at what's going on, we are in for lots of pleasant and fascinating and useful surprises. A new and more satisfying way of life begins to open up, just by noticing what we see. –Douglas Harding
When someone asks me who they are or what God is, I smile inside and whisper to the Light: "There you go again pretending."–Adyashanti
Pure knowledge is not imparted by another; it comes unmasked. It is the one that is listening: it is your own true nature.–Nisargadatta Maharaj
I show the truth to living beings -- and then they are no longer living beings. –Tung-shan
There is a Presence that is unnameable which thought cannot touch. It is not your possession; it is what you are.–Adyashanti
What we call 'I' is just a swinging door which moves when we inhale and when we exhale. It just moves; that is all ... there is nothing: no 'I,' no world, no mind or body; just a swinging door.–Shunryu Suzuki Roshi
There are trivial truths and there are great truths. The opposite of a trivial truth is plainly false. The opposite of a great truth is also true.–Neils Bohr
Profound things are simple. If it is not simple, it cannot be true. But simple things are difficult.–Douglas Harding
Thought subsides when you pet your dog or you have a purring cat on your chest. Even just watching an animal can take you out of your mind. It is more deeply connected with the source of life than most humans, and that rootedness in Being transmits itself to you. Millions of people who otherwise would be completely lost in the conceptual reality of their mind are kept sane by living with an animal.–Eckhart Tolle
All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration and hold this most minute solar system of the atom together...We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.–Max Planck
Consciousness comes first; it is the ground of all being. Everything else, including matter, is a possibility of consciousness. And consciousness chooses out of these possibilities all the events we experience.–Amit Goswami Ph.D.
What we are looking for ... is what is looking.–Wei Wu Wei
Abide ever as the Self. Reflection on truth heard is a hundred times more potent than hearing it, and abiding in it is a hundred thousand times more potent than reflection on it.–Anon.
I do not suffer; I cannot suffer because I am not an object. Of course there is suffering. But do you realize what this suffering is? I am the suffering. Whatever is manifested, I am the functioning. Whatever is perceptible I am the perceiving of it. Whatever is done I am the doing of it; I am the doer of it, and, understand this, I am also that which is done. In fact, I am the total functioning.–Nisargadatta Maharaj
I AM
Here
Now
As This –Wei Wu Wei
When I see I am nothing,
that is wisdom.
When I see I am everything,
that is love.
And between these two,
my life flows.–Nisargadatta Maharaj
Do you realize the unimaginable greatness, the holiness of what you so casually call 'consciousness'? It is the unmanifest Absolute aware of its awareness through the manifestation, of which your mind-body is presently a part.–Nisargadatta Maharaj
Just for a moment imagine that you are experiencing an unpleasant night dream: You are in the ocean, swimming; you have gone out too far; you look back toward the shore and see that there is very little hope of rescue. Even though you shout your lungs out, no one can hear you. And so you are seized with fear. You struggle and strive to reach the shore, and, of course, the harder you fight, the harder the ocean fights you. There is only one thing left for you to do - drown. Yes, drown - but wait! In your fight, you shouted and someone heard you, came over and shook you, woke you up, and behold the miracle! The drowning self disappeared; the ocean disappeared; the struggle disappeared. You awakened and found that you had never left your comfortable home. All that was necessary in order to be released from the struggle was to awaken!–Joel Goldsmith
The question “Who am I?” is not a philosophical football meant to be kicked around coffeehouses by pseudo-intellectuals. It’s a real-life question. Nothing is more important and more relevant than to know who you are.–Chris Butler
